Gatehouse Bank, the fully Shariah-compliant wholesale investment bank, has reinforced its Capital Markets team by appointing Zaid Maleh as a Director in the Capital Markets Origination team.
Zaid joined Gatehouse in September 2008 from Vienna-based Raiffeisen Zentralbank Österreich AG (RZB), where he spent the last three years. As part of the Global Markets team Zaid was responsible for the origination & structuring of syndicated loans and capital markets products. His focus was primarily on the emerging markets covering the Middle-East and North Africa region, Turkey and parts of Western Europe. At RZB, he also had a global mandate to develop the activities of RZB‘s Islamic desk.
Prior to joining RZB, Zaid worked as a financial consultant in the Project Finance Unit at the United Nations Headquarter in Vienna. During his 3 years at the UN, he worked on numerous projects in the Middle-East and North Africa region.
David Testa, CEO, Gatehouse Bank, commented:
“I am delighted Zaid has joined Gatehouse as a senior member of the Capital Markets origination team. Zaid is a well known figure in the Gulf and wider Middle-Eastern and North African region and he fulfils our key criteria of staffing the bank with experienced banking professionals with a strong track record in Islamic finance. He will further strengthen Gatehouse’s compelling profile in what continues to be uniquely difficult market conditions. ”
Zaid Maleh, Director of Capital Markets, Gatehouse Bank added:
“Although still a relatively niche market, recent developments in the most mature Islamic finance geographic markets of the Gulf and Southeast Asia suggest that Shariah-compliant banks are emerging as a serious alternative to their conventional counterparts in the minds of clients. Gatehouse Bank in its unique set-up, being based in the heart of the City of London, provides an excellent opportunity to combine Tier 1 financial engineering skills with immediate access to the markets through its solid Kuwaiti shareholder base and wider client network.”
